Questions
How do I add live captions to OBS?
Run LiveSubs, pick your audio source and press Start. It streams captions out over NDI and Spout as a transparent frame, plus the live text over OSC. In OBS, add an NDI source (or a Spout2 source) and point it at LiveSubs to get realtime subtitles as a layer you can position anywhere on your scene.
Can it caption system audio, not just a microphone?
Yes. LiveSubs can caption any microphone or any system-loopback (WASAPI) device, so you can transcribe a video call, a media player, a stream or any live feed playing on the computer. Just pick that device on the Audio Source tab.
What outputs does LiveSubs support?
Three, at the same time: NDI and Spout carry a transparent caption frame you can drop straight into OBS, vMix, Resolume or TouchDesigner, and OSC carries the raw live text string for lower-third templates and custom graphics engines.
Do I need to install anything or create an account?
No. LiveSubs is a single portable .exe with no installer, no unzip and no admin rights, and there's no runtime to install. There's no account to create either: you buy a minute pack, paste the key into the app, and your minutes are added to that computer.
Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?
The app isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC" the first time you run it. Click More info, then Run anyway. The download is served directly from live-subs.com.
Does LiveSubs support other languages?
Yes. Transcription runs on Deepgram Nova-3, which handles many languages and can auto-detect speech, so you can caption shows in languages other than English.
What are the system requirements?
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and an internet connection (audio is streamed to Deepgram for transcription). No dedicated GPU is required. The whole app is a single 5.5 MB portable file.
